Lone Star College-North Harris, nestled on 200 acres of piney woods, is the original and largest college in the Lone Star College System family. Serving the community for more than three decades, NHC offers more than 60 programs of study, including university-transfer and numerous education courses and programs. Lone Star College-North Harris is keenly focused on leading-edge technology in emerging technical job fields. Programs of note include pharmacy technology, Montessori infant and toddler teacher certification, associate degree nursing, interactive media, and teacher certification. The college serves as north Houston's center for the arts, and includes a juried art gallery and comprehensive fine arts curriculum with a calendar full of free and low-cost visual, applied and performing arts events and exhibits. The NHC Child Development Lab School offers high-quality child care for children ages three months to six years in a state-of-the-art facility at competitive rates.
To provide neighborhood centers that serve residents in the greater Greenspoint and South Aldine areas, Lone Star College-North Harris has two full-service satellite centers. Lone Star College-North Harris•Lone Star College-Greenspoint Center is located near I-45 and Beltway 8 at 250 N. Sam Houston Parkway East, near Greenspoint Mall. Lone Star College-North Harris•Carver Center is located at 2330 S. Victory, in the Acres Home community, next to G.W. Carver High School. The centers serve as community outreach sites that help students start a degree or certification program they can finish at NHC or any four-year institution. Both centers offer day, evening and weekend classes in computers, English, speech, art appreciation, history, government, math, drafting, business, and health, as well as many other university-transfer and job-preparatory courses. Our tax rate is 11.67 cents per $100 valuation. The first $5,000 or 1% of appraised value, whichever is greater, of owned and occupied residential property is exempt. Also exempt: the first $75,000 of a resident property owned and occupied by a person over 65 years old.
