Manage Your Applicant Pool

The following considerations are important when screening the applications/resumes:

  • Ensure that all candidates under consideration have the minimum requirements for the position. Applicants with foreign credentials must have their credentials evaluated by a NACES (National Association of Credential Evaluation Services) member organization so that a decision can be made upon their educations qualifications.
  • Be sure to consider all qualified applicants who have applied within the posting time limits
  • Verify transcripts and degrees - Diploma Mills
  • Identify all current full-time Lone Star College System employees
  • Specify the short-list criteria
  • Record all short-listed applicants
  • Ensure the confidentiality of the candidates - Confidentiality Statement
Short-List Criteria

Short-listing criteria must be developed in consultation with the selection committee. The criteria must be reasonably discernable from the written application, as that is the only information available from all candidates. Consider the following examples:

  • Minimum educational requirements
  • Related work/volunteer experience
  • Technical skills
  • Written communication skills
  • Evidence of teamwork abilities
  • Knowledge/ Exposure to community college environment
